Dubai eGovernment has launched its new Mobile Portal. This makes the dubai.ae web site accessible from internet-enabled PDA and smartphone devices, meaning mobile users can carry out transactions and access government info from wherever they are. Users logging onto Dubai eGovernment portal’s at www.dubai.ae will have access to a specifically designed version of the site, the content of which is broken down into six distinct categories: traffic, Islamic, financial, travel booking, Dubai information and entertainment. Some of the services available under these categories are the provision of visa information from Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD), a prayer timings service from Awqaf, and services from Dubai Police such as traffic fine enquiries and payments. “The launch of a Mobile Portal was imperative considering the major increase in mobile penetration in Dubai and more importantly taking into account the increase in the number of people who are constantly on the move and dependent on their mobile phones for accessing information,” said Salem Al Shair, Dubai eGovernment’s eServices director. Thanks to Dubai eGovernment’s having teamed up with a range of organisations, mobile surfers can also use the site to do more than merely pay their traffic fines. Surfers can, for instance: make Emirates Airline bookings; check the arrival and departure of flights from Dubai Civil Aviation Department; search for hotels and products in specific malls; find out about sales and promotions taking place around Dubai; and even check out the weekly television schedule for One TV.
