Billing software and services provider Convergys has opened up a regional office in Dubai. “We’re here to reinforce our Middle Eastern presence,” says the company’s president EMEA Jean-Hervé Jenn, adding that the company was well positioned in the region, having established billing agreements with Fastlink, Syriatel and more recently Qtel and Nawras. Jenn hints that there is another, bigger deal for Convergys in the region just around the corner. In the customer services sector, the company is the world’s largest, with over 60,0000 employees. However, it currently only serves the English-speaking world, something that Jenn says would probably change within the next twelve months. “We’re looking at establishing an Arabic-speaking call centre,” he reveals. He also says the company is looking to efficiently bring together it’s billing and customer service sides, having found that 70% of calls to its centres are bill related. Canadian telecoms software solution provider Redknee is also planning to establish a regional office in Dubai next month as the company targets operators in the Gulf region, wider Middle East and North Africa more directly. The company already has an established relationship with MTC Group and is hoping to leverage that relationship in order to expand its base of operations to Africa, where MTC owns pan-African operator Celtel International. “Redknee has been operating for six years and has over 20 customers,” says Karthik Ramakrishnan, business development manager for Redknee in the Middle East. “References make a big impact in this part of the world and we think our experiences abroad will be of benefit when we start actively trying to partner with more operators in the region.”
