GulfCo has introduced Nestle’s popular French mineral water brand, Contrex, into the region. Although the bottled water market is highly competitive and somewhat crowded, GulfCo believes it will succeed by positioning Contrex as an aid to dieting. According to Nestle, Contrex is rich in calcium and magnesium, elements that are sometimes lacking in low calorie diets. One litre of Contrex can apparently provide 61% of the recommended daily intake of calcium and 28% of magnesium. This positioning appears to have worked elsewhere in the world. Around 500 million litres of Contrex are consumed annually in almost 40 countries. The water is sourced from the Vosges Mountains in Contrexéville, France, a protected source since 1755. GulfCo says Contrex will be ‘competitively priced’ with other imported natural mineral waters.
