Oracle has teamed up with 20 independent software vendor (ISV) channel partners to showcase a wide range of vertical and horizontal solutions built on Oracle platforms at this year’s Gitex. The vendor is also poised to name two new ISV partners that have defected from rival vendors and pinned their colours to the Oracle mast instead. “ISV recruitment is a continuous channel effort for Oracle and we are judged on the numbers that we manage to recruit,” said Hisham Esaadi, regional channel director at Oracle. “It is a very competitive space with major platform vendors all trying to sign up ISVs.” Oracle will appear at Gitex alongside a range of ISVs from across the GCC and the wider Middle East as well as a handful of international players such as Indian company Satyam. “We will have partners that are early adopters of Oracle 10g technology and also those driving into new technology areas such as RFID. We will also be announcing a couple of new ISV partners that have switched to building their solutions on an Oracle platform from a competitor’s products.” The competition between major platform vendors such as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and SAP to sign up ISVs and persuade them to build vertical and horizontal solutions on their platforms remains intense. With more ISVs looking to reduce the number of software platforms that they develop solutions for, the stakes are high. “I can’t think of one ISV partner that has dropped Oracle technology to move to a rival,” added Esaadi. “At the same time we are seeing less and less ISVs developing solutions on multiple platforms, because they understand the high maintenance costs that they can incur in terms of supporting customers.”
