Document management solutions powerhouse Xerox is in advanced negotiations with eSys to finalise a Middle East distribution tie-up. The two companies hope to formally announce an agreement at this year’s Gitex. At present, the geographic remit and products that will be covered by the potential distribution deal between Xerox and eSys in the Middle East region remain unclear. Xerox’s regional PR spokesperson stated: “The contract has not been signed and details of the agreement have not been finalised so they cannot discuss things at this stage…The decision by both parties is to make an announcement at Gitex, post actual signing.” Striking a deal with Xerox would mark another step forward in eSys’ transition into a broadline distribution outfit, offering a wide portfolio across multiple product categories. The company has long been known as a components distributor but has made moves in recent months to introduce a greater range of finished goods working with vendors such as BenQ. There is a precedent for a distribution agreement between eSys and Xerox. Earlier this year, the two companies announced a tie-up in India. That deal involved eSys taking on Xerox’s range of office supplies, scanners, projectors and a suite of HP compatibles. The compatible toner cartridges that eSys carries in India are specifically designed for HP LaserJet black and white printers. Xerox also boosted its Middle East distribution network in July 2005 with the appointment of Hoshan to carry its wide format printing solutions in the UAE. Speaking at the time of the Hoshan deal, Ben Gale, Middle East and Africa general manager, sales and marketing and distributor operations at Xerox, stated: “Xerox is always looking to boost its distribution network by working with regional partners who have in-depth local market expertise to deliver customer-centric solutions.”
