IT giant HP has signed a strategic partnership with printing vendor Seiko I Infotech to develop and market low solvent based large format printers aimed at the outdoor graphics market. New printers will be produced on an OEM basis, with Seiko I Infotech developing the products exclusively for HP, which will then handle the sales, marketing, distribution, support and supplies of the printers. The first products in this range are expected to hit the shelves in 2006. “Our current offering in the outdoor market is only short term solutions, whereas the printers Seiko I Infotech are developing are more of long lasting outdoor solution. We have struck an OEM deal because this is an existing technology. As a project that we are involved in, instead of starting from zero we are going in and developing the products from an already established stage,” said Ernest Azzam, business development manager, large format printing, imaging and printing group at HP Middle East. The printers will be designed to print durable outdoor graphics such as signs, banners and vehicle graphics. The new printers will complement HP’s existing range of large format devices. “We were looking for a partner that could provide the levels of print quality, ease of use and system performance that HP customers have come to expect,” said Enrique Lores, vice president and general manager, large format printing, imaging and printing group at HP. “Partnering with Seiko I Infotech enables us to rapidly expand our presence in the durable outdoor signage market.” “HP’s distribution channel, worldwide resources and extensive imaging and printing product portfolio make this partnership a win-win for print service providers,” said Eiichi Ishihama, president and CEO at Seiko I Infotech. “We are happy to enter into this agreement, bringing the best of the best to our customers and the outdoor signage market.” Seiko I Infotech is a subsidiary of Japanese company Seiko Instruments Inc. Currently the vendor handles the Middle East region out of its Asia Pacific office.
