Enterprise software vendor Sybase has laid out aggressive channel recruitment plans for this year’s Gitex, as it attempts to recruit a wide range of partners to spearhead a drive into new geographies and new verticals across the region. “To Sybase, maintaining a strong distribution network of OEMs, systems integrators, independent software vendors and value-added resellers is crucial to the success of the company and enhances our company’s ability to be a competitive regional player. Over the years, we have built a solid region wide partner network that caters to many vertical markets such as banking and finance,” said Hisham Malak, channel and marketing manager at Sybase. “We are looking to further enhance and develop our various channels. We are also looking at expanding into new verticals such as oil and gas, healthcare, insurance, retail, and others, by forging strategic partnerships with companies that cater to such markets. We are strongly positioned to cater to the unique needs of those verticals through our wide range of technologies and innovative solutions. We are also looking to recruit partners who are into the mobile and wireless domain given Sybase’s market leadership position in this area,” Malak added. For solutions such as Sybase Pylon, which can be used across various vertical markets, Sybase plans to recruit VARs that provide the widest possible coverage. “We plan to educate and train our partners on the benefits of Sybase’s products,” continued Malak. “We are offering sales and technical support to partners to help them perform better. We will also create great incentives for our channel partners to aggressively promote our products. We look to build long-term strategic relationships with all our partners and hence we are very selective of the companies we partner with.” Sybase plans to kick start its Middle East channel development plan in earnest during Gitex 2005. The vendor has planned an executive dinner for the second day of Gitex to thank both its customers and partners. Senior Sybase executives will attend the event, flying in from the US specifically to attend Gitex.
