HP has unveiled a new ‘Business Protection Portfolio’ of products and a ‘Smart Desktop Management Service’ to help SMBs stay up, running and secure. According to research company Access Markets International, SMBs across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) are increasingly concerned this year about protecting their assets and ensuring their systems are up and running. The firm found that over 2.3 million SMBs based across the EMEA consider it ‘extremely important’ or ‘very important’ to enhance their data security or data back-up and disaster recovery plans during the course of this year. As part of HP’s ongoing ‘Smart Office’ initiative for SMBs, it has introduced a Business Protection portfolio that it hopes will meet the goals of such aware EMEA organisations. This new portfolio emphasises three key areas in particular: Data protection (providing businesses with the tools they need to capture, distribute and protect information automatically and back-up and recover data); Security protection (giving SMBs the tools to fight against increasingly sophisticated security threats); and business-critical availability; HP’s products and services aim to keep business systems running during critical times such as power outages and natural disasters. In terms of the actual business bundles available for SMBs to buy – all of which address the three areas of concern above – the following packages are available: HP’s ‘Growing Business Solution’ is designed for rapidly growing small businesses that require internet and desktop security. An optional secure wireless LAN add-on provides wireless connectivity in the office. The ‘Advanced Solution’ is aimed at businesses with similar needs, but that also want to easily run multiple business applications. HP’s ‘First Server Solution’ bundle meanwhile is an all-in-one security solution for the first-time server buyer (again available with an optional secure wireless LAN add-on). At a recent roundtable event focussing on the security issues Middle East SMBs face, HP’s regional SMB manager, Hamid Hassan, explained that after facing a security breach, IT threat or disaster, the survival of a smaller business often depends on just how quickly it can get back up and running. “In today’s increasingly data-centric business environment, IT preparedness is a major component to getting back to business,” he explained. “In order to protect their organisations, SMBs must confront this reality; HP’s new Business Protection portfolio simplifies that process.” The final piece of HP’s portfolio puzzle is its new ‘Smart Desktop Management Service’. HP claims this “first-of-its kind” online SMB Security Solution Center will make it easier for small business owners and partners to understand and choose security features to best protect their businesses. The service delivers remote data back-up and restore capabilities with enhanced security features, hassle-free computer virus protection powered by Symantec for networked desktops and notebooks, and automatic Microsoft operating system updates and support, featuring an innovative remote services platform and active, real-time assistance.
