Zhone is ready to attack the regional triple play market thanks to the acquisition of rival carrier-class infrastructure player Paradyne. Zhone acquired Paradyne in a bid to enhance its ability to build what it dubs “total-delivery solutions for voice, data and content services”. Both carrier-focused companies develop broadband infrastructure and the vendor sees plenty of regional opportunities. “The combined offering presents a compelling end-to-end access solution to carriers and service providers in the Middle East, which is witnessing a fast paced tele-density increase through multi-service NGN initiatives,” says Hakim Alhusan, regional director of Zhone Technologies MEA & Asian Subcontinent. “Zhone’s BLC solutions provide carriers with the scalability and migration path to triple play services on one platform and will be the underlying technology demonstrated at Gitex 2005 through Etisalat’s triple play demo,” he adds. Zhone Technologies MEA & Asian Subcontinent regional office maintains the combined company business for the region with presence in Dubai, Cairo, Riyadh and Islamabad. According to Zhone, the merger bolsters its position as a leading provider of next generation broadband loop carrier and Ethernet first mile access network solutions. Zhone now has a customer base that includes some of the world’s largest network service providers representing more than 400 existing carrier and cable operators on six continents.
