Emirates Computers’ president Hani Harik is promising a number of firsts, as well as some big surprises for visitors to Gitex and Computer Shopper this year. In hall four of the main exhibition, the firm will be focusing on solutions that have never before been shown in the region, including Nokia’s latest ‘pen and paper’ data capture system. Keen to keep most of the details under wraps until the big day, Harik describes it as “the most intuitive form of data capture,” and says it will be of huge benefits to not only enterprise clients but also those working in key verticals such as healthcare. “We’ll be flying in Nokia experts from Europe to demonstrate it. People will be amazed by the solution,” he adds. Also on Emirates Computers’ hall four stand will be demonstrations of Vignette, the content management and portal management software the firm sells and implements across the region. Designed to allow organisations to rapidly build, manage and deploy web applications in realtime, Vignette’s offering has already been deployed by some of the Middle East’s largest end users, including Etisalat, according to Harik. “At the show, we want also to focusing on showing people solutions that can be adopted now. Vignette is a good example of this. It is an end-to-end solution that can be used for many things, from portals to reports, be it for the web or an intranet,” he adds. Over at Gitex Computer Shopper, the Emirates Computers team will have even more surprises up its collective sleeves. Again, Harik is unwilling to spoil the surprise for those turning up on day one, but he says the company’s stand will be home to some “crazy ideas”. And, just in case that’s not enough to draw the crowds, he also says that the team has a raft of special promotions planned surrounding its Nokia and Dell product lines. “We will have some great offers for Gitex Shopper. For example, for every purchase people can win instantly, from cash prizes to MP3s and even notebooks,” he says. “We’ll also be introducing two new products, one from a company in the UK and one from a company in the Far East,” Harik adds.
