Over 600 industry leaders, key decision makers and aspiring entrepreneurs are expected to congregate at Grand Hyatt Hotel on the second night of Gitex for the 15th annual Arabian Business Awards. The awards evening, hosted by ITP Consumer, the publisher of Arabian Business English and Arabic, is typically the high point of a busy Gitex week. “Once again the cream of the regional business community is expected to attend this gala event,” says Walid Akawi, senior vice president of publishing, ITP. “ITP Consumer and its panel of judges, which has been drawn from the great and the good of the local business community, has searched long and hard to find the worthy winners,” he adds. The twelve-strong judging panel held its first meeting in early July, where it confirmed the award categories. Subsequent sub-committee meetings were held to identify candidates and eventually select the winners. The judging panel, consisting of representatives of Etisalat, Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment, The Corporate Office, Emirates, Oracle, The Kanoo Group, HP, Mashreqbank, Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai Government and the editors of Arabian Business English and Arabic editions, choose the winners based on a flexible criteria that emphasised company performance, innovation, local market investment, adherence to best business practice and corporate social responsibility. “We are delighted to be working again with such highly respected companies and individuals for this year’s awards. We are particularly grateful to Etisalat, which is sponsoring the Arabian Business Awards this year,” says Akawi. “This year we have taken the unique step of taking nominees through our web site. We have seen a tremendous response from the growing readership of Arabian Business. We have also introduced several new categories, which reflect and recognise the growing importance of key industries.” His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, has presented awards in previous years to His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco (2004), His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan (2003) and His Highness Prince Walid bin Talal (2002).
