Acer is giving UAE entertainment enthusiasts the chance to de-clutter their living rooms by dumping VCRs, DVD players and PCs, and instead opting for the firm’s new Aspire L200 Living Center. This monster media centre sits in a slim chassis and is loaded with Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center 2005 operating system (OS). Thank to this, the PC allows users to record TV programmes, surf the internet, listen to music and share their digital photos from the comfort of their sofa. “The L200 removes the need for multiple electronic devices in the home, delivering increased productivity, creativity and entertainment when you want it and how you want it,” said Sanjay Kachroo, Acer’s business development manager for desktop PCs. Acer’s latest addition boasts a 64-bit ready AMD Athlon64 3200+ processor, 512MB of DDR RAM and a 160GB hard drive. Aiding entertainment functionality is a wireless keyboard with a built-in pointer and a wireless remote control. In terms of its look and feel, the L200 is built to blend into the living room and designed to look like any standard DVD player. While the L200 features Windows XP Media Center 2005, Microsoft has yet to add launch the OS in the region, which in turn means no Arabic support is currently available for the platform. However, when this feature is added, Acer yesterday confirmed that customers will be given a free upgrade. The L200 will hit stores in early September and will retail for around $1,498. A one-year warranty is offered as standard though customers will be able to extend this at extra cost. The Living Center will compete with Fujitsu Siemens’ $1,226 Scaleo C, which features a 2.8GHz Pentium 4, 1GB DDR memory and a 200GB hard drive.
