MTF to offer first MICE hosted buyer programme

MICE buyers will visit Luxor, Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Alexandria as part of Mediterranean Travel Fair’s Egypt showcase programme

This year’s Mediterranean Travel Fair (MTF) will play host to a number of MICE hosted buyers, as the travel trade exhibition targets the lucrative meetings market for the first time. The event, which takes place at the Cairo International Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 6-8, will offer a dedicated MICE hosted buyer programme, as well as presenting a number of new seminars and events all aimed at presenting the Eastern Mediterranean, and Egypt in particular, as a prime location for conferences and incentives. “The meetings and incentives houses of Europe and the rest of the world are a key growth market for the whole of the Eastern Mediterranean region and MTF is in a unique position to attract these valuable and difficult to reach buyers,” said Chris Chackal, overseas group exhibition director for show organisers, Reed Travel Exhibitions. “Using our expertise as show organiser and that of our partners, we’ll be running our very first meetings, conferences and incentives hosted buyer programme at Mediterranean Travel Fair 2005.” Chackal went on to explain: “Reed Travel Exhibitions has been successfully running similar and hugely popular programmes at events such as World Travel Market and Arabian Travel Market. At MTF, the MICE buyers will meet with Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Nazif, then after the show visit Luxor and the resorts of Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and the ancient city of Alexandria.” As well as the MICE programme, MTF will play host to its largest ever programme of seminars. Already confirmed to speak at MTF are Diego Lofeudo from Expedia, who will give practical advice in a session on Online Tour Operating, Gautam Sen Gupta of Market Vision who will detail the Habits & Behaviour of the UAE outbound traveller, and Elhamy El Zayat from Emeco Travel, who will present a session on the Egyptian Incentive Travel Market. Since its inception six years ago, MTF has grown year on year. 2004 saw an overall increase of 10.6% in delegates attending the event with an individual increase of 8.2% in travel industry professionals. Some 67% of these visitors were of manager status and above, with 50% having direct purchasing responsibility for the companies they were representing. MTF 2004 saw 161 exhibiting companies from 28 countries participate, a 17% increase on 2003.
