Outgoing Nokia chief executive Jorma Ollila may pay a visit to the Middle East region before his tenure ends in October 2006, says Eddy Rizk, Nokia’s senior communications manager for the MEA region. “There’s a possibility Ollila may visit the region in the next 6-12 months,” Rizk says. Motorola CEO Ed Zander is also reported to be preparing to visit the region before year-end. Having been at the helm of Nokia since 1992, Ollila is set to step down next year and assume the position of non-executive chairman. Emerging markets have been a strong focus of Nokia’s in recent years and the rapid adoption of mobile subscribes in the region has made the Finnish vendor keen to continue fostering relationships there. The vendor is also looking to build upon its enterprise mobility strategy and Rizk says that further announcements regarding Nokia’s channel strategy for its enterprise mobility solutions will be made next month. Nokia has a push e-mail solution scheduled to launch in the Middle East and North Africa market before the end of 2005, and is in the process of finalising a channel recruitment plan that will target systems integrators, value added resellers and independent software vendors capable of selling enterprise mobility solutions to businesses across the region. The Finnish vendor’s enterprise solutions business group, formed at the beginning of 2004 after the restructuring of the company, aims to pull together Nokia’s expertise across all sectors of its business to create compelling solutions for customers ranging from small and medium businesses through to the largest enterprises. For his part, Ollila has agreed to also become the non-executive chairman of UK/Dutch oil group Royal Dutch Shell, commencing June 2006.
