HP is promising a high-end disk array at an entry-level price with the launch of its StorageWorks XP 10000 product. Aimed at businesses chasing the IT dream of 24x7 business continuity with zero downtime, the new product extends the existing HP StorageWorks XP family. “The market opportunity for highly available, high-performance disk arrays continues to grow as more cost effective solutions and increased functionality attract new customers," said Ashraf Helmy, StorageWorks, product marketing manager at HP Middle East. “Ranked as the number one IT company in total disk storage in Western Europe with a 23.7% market share and also as the number one leader in all specific storage markets according to IDC figures, HP brings a level of performance, scalability and availability with the HP StorageWorks XP10000, previously not available to such a broad range of customers,” he added. The XP 10000 offers advanced virtualisation technology allowing the implementation of tiered storage applications using internal and external storage capacity and flexible provisioning. The new product also offers support for multiple operating systems including HP-UX, Windows, Linux, OpenVMS, NonStop, Mainframe, Tru64, AIX and Solaris. “Enterprise customers with no tolerance for downtime and requiring robust storage management and provisioning capabilities are increasingly looking for the most cost-effective ways to adapt to real-time changes and business needs,” said Rick Steffens, VP and general manager, Storage Area Networks, StorageWorks Division, HP. “With the newest addition to the StorageWorks XP family, HP is enabling better storage consolidation and giving a broader range of customers more options for secure data storage and business continuity where downtime is not an option,” he added. HP has also introduced new software for the StorageWorks XP family to streamline storage management, improve efficiency and reduce costs.
