Flip Media has launched its podcaster in the Middle East which publishes sound files on the internet allowing users to receive audio programmes automatically. Podcasting differs from traditional broadcasting and webcasting in the way that the core content is transmitted and can also include data such as dates, titles and descriptions. Instead of a central audio stream, subscribers download audio files created and posted onto the web, but unlike radio or streaming media, podcasts are time shifted, meaning that users have control over when they hear the recording. Podcast technology enables broadcasters to reach a far wider audience than normal radio transmission allows, as listeners are can use either their computer, or synchronize with portable media players or devices to replay the broadcast at their convenience. “Podcasting is truly the next generation of internet technology and complementary to our FlipCast internet video streaming platform,” said Dinesh Lalvani, creative director at Flip Media. 7Days newspaper is the first customer to use the Flip Podcaster in the region, and is currently broadcasting edition of Dubai Eye’s the Editors programme and will later offer Radio 2’s Viewpoint programme. “Podcasting adds an exciting new dimension to our site enabling us to broadcast material that our readers may have missed on the radio and are keen to listen to,” said Gemma McKeown, marketing director at 7Days. “Effectively they can ‘tune in’ at their leisure with the added convenience of being able download programmes to a portable device and listen to on the go. Gone are the days when you have to catch radio programmes as they air, now you can listen to your favourite shows as and when you please.”
