The InterContinental Dubai is introducing Single Barrel Jack Daniel’s whiskey to Dubai for the first time this month. The hotel’s Palm Grill restaurant will host a Jack Daniel’s set menu on August 30, with whiskey as a key ingredient. The Bar at Palm Grill will become home to a barrel of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey, serving guests straight from the barrel. “This selected barrel holds the equivalent of 246 750ml bottles,” Craig Cook, beverage manager at the Inter-Continental Dubai, told Caterer Middle East. “Given current trends, it should be fully sold in about two months. Once this is finished, I will fly back to Tennessee to blend and select another Jack Daniels Barrel — so we are launching this event and celebrating bringing the first JD Barrel to Dubai on August 30, but the promotion will be running for a few months,” he added. The single barrel whiskey offers a subtle taste difference to regular Jack Daniel’s tipples. This is because, as the whiskey ages in the barrel summer after summer, the pores of the oak barrels open up, allowing a bit of whiskey to seep in. Then, with each winter’s chill, the grain contracts, forcing the whiskey from the wood. Passing in and out the charred oak interior of the barrel, the whiskey is imbued with a rich amber colour, the natural caramelised sugars and the subtle flavours that give Jack Daniel’s its distinctive taste. Because no two barrels and the place they occupy within the warehouse at Jack Daniel’s are the same, the whiskey that emerges from each barrel boasts a difference in character. As each barrel of whiskey comes of age, master distiller, Jimmy Bedford, sets a few aside. They’re the ones with the smoothest taste and most intense flavour, and it is one of these barrels that is set to adorn the bar at Palm Grill. Palm Grill will be hosting a six–course dinner with each course centred on the JD Single Barrel for Dhs. 395 (US $108) per person all inclusive on August 30. For starters is an Amuse Bouche of goose liver pate with naan bread; followed by a taste of three oysters with JD Barrel Sabayon, and Chive Beurre Blanc, together with shrimp and sweet corn bisque flamed with JD Barrel; king coconut and grapefruit sorbet; char grilled Australian beef with lime marinated lamb confit, grilled asparagus with tarragon glace, served with a selection of JD Barrel Sauces; and to finish, warm chocolate crepe soufflé with berry compote and whiskey ice cream.
