An awards event aimed at developing the next generation of packaging and advertising designers is to take place in December. The Packaging and Graphic Design Awards for Students will happen as part of the Gulf Pack and Gulf Print exhibitions from 11 December in Dubai. The student awards were especially developed for tertiary students in the UAE and launched at last year’s show. “We had over 75 entries from seven universities and colleges in the UAE at last year’s show making it a very successful debut,” said Sharla Hancock, Project Manager, Gulf Pack. “The aim of the awards is to bring students and industry together. We want students to apply their theoretical learnings into practical work, to help them understand the processes required in industry and how their designs can be practically used in the market place.” Categories include designing 3D packaging for luxury products, along with advertising posters for events, corporate identity and typeface creation.
