U.S. Robotics (USR) is being careful not to exclude young and cash-strapped internet users by helping them log on with a new 56K fax 6K modem. Designed for both new and current web surfers who cannot afford, or don’t want, a high-speed (and more expensive) broadband internet connection, the company’s USR8105631 56K modem lets users receive and screen telephone calls whilst still connected to the internet. USR claims its latest 56K model also offers faster upload speeds, which should in turn improve online gaming, accelerate the uploads of digital photos, and speed up the sending of large attachments via e-mail. “There are a host of features which make the USR8105631 ideal for internet, fax and data usage, claimed Tony Field, product marketing manager, U.S. Robotics EMEA. “A new integrated hardware design reduces costs while incorporating the latest technology benefits and data/fax speeds up to 56kbps.” Created with younger buyers in mind, the modem goes for a sleek design and is available in ‘cool blue’ with detachable feet, meaning its orientation can be easily altered. The USR8105631 utilises a PC’s serial interface and costs US $45.
