The Dubai Court of Appeal has acquitted five defendants accused of being responsible for the collapse of a wall at Dubai International Airport last year, which resulted in the death of five workers. The Arabic daily Al Khaleej reported that the Dubai Court of First Instance had sentenced each defendant to one month in prison and an AED3000 fine. The court also ordered the five to jointly pay AED1 million in blood money. But the Court of Appeal acquitted the men last week. The defendants, who denied the charges, included two British nationals and three others from Ireland, India and Pakistan. A Dubai Municipality spokesman confirmed that a report into the accident had been produced following a request made by the Dubai police.
