Etisalat plays host to members of the Abu Dhabi Scientific Club, giving an educational data centre tour and presentation. The Club’s members, all young students in various school grades, saw first hand the technology used by the company and gained a deeper understanding of Etisalat’s role in connecting the UAE to the internet. According to Abdullah Hashim, senior manager of eCompany, “It is a pleasure to stimulate eager young minds in this manner, and I am sure that in the future there will be many engineers and scientists among the club members. We appreciate the fact that students are using their summer vacation for such useful purposes, which is why we readily agreed when they requested a tour of our facility.” The 11 youngsters spent an hour being guided around the data centre in the Etisalat head offices in Abu Dhabi. This was followed by a presentation by Ali Rashid and Hassan Al Abdooli of eCompany, which outlined some of the key services and products of eCompany. Two coordinators from the Scientific Club led the delegation, and all report that they have now gained a deeper understanding of the working of the corporation. The Scientific Club comes under the Abu Dhabi Education Region, and is associated with the PTA. According to Fatima Al Hosani, internet activity teacher at the Scientific Club, Abu Dhabi, “[The Club’s] aim is to give students information directly from the source, so that they can learn in depth about products and services.”
