Virtualisation solution vendor PlateSpin has signed up Magirus as a distribution partner for EMEA. Magirus, which has developed a solid reputation as a value-added distributor of IT infrastructure solutions, has Middle East operations in the UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia as well as strong coverage in Europe. “The PlateSpin software products ideally complement our existing portfolio in the virtualisation field. Having opened up the field of server virtualisation for our partners through products such as VMware, this agreement was the logical next step to provide our partners in Europe and the Middle East with enhanced business opportunities through the PlateSpin products,” said Jürgen Rahn, director software EMEA at Magirus. “PlateSpin is an ideal platform for the management and optimisation of server infrastructures which enables operating systems and the corresponding applications and data to be moved between physical and virtual machines without manual input for VMware ESX Server, VMware GSX Server and Microsoft Virtual Server 2005,” added Rahn. “We are delighted to have appointed Magirus as our distributor for Europe, Middle East and Africa. With their market presence, existing successful virtualisation business, technical skills, training facilities and ability to support their partners in delivering end-to-end solutions, Magirus offer PlateSpin a great foundation to further expand our EMEA business,” said Eric Courville, VP sales and business development at PlateSpin. “Magirus will recruit, train and support key virtualisation resellers and consultancy partners in all of our key markets across the region. Together we will deliver solutions to optimize physical and virtual infrastructures thereby improving service levels and lowering operational costs for our mutual customers,” Courville added. At the beginning of a virtualisation project, PlateSpin’s ‘Power Recon’ software tool can be used to read the servers and calculate their utilisation. Customers can then decide on the most appropriate virtualisation solution using products from vendors such as VMware or Microsoft. VMware’s P2V product allows physical servers to be transferred to virtual servers. For projects involving ten or more servers, PlateSpin offers its ‘Power P2V’ solution that works largely automatically and offers intelligent implementation solutions. Note that PlateSpin and VMware solutions complement each other seamlessly courtesy of a strategic alliance between the two vendors. Magirus offers a range of virtualisation solutions for channel partners to take to market and offers a wide range of sales and service support as well as training and project implementation services. Magirus has more than 500 staff across Europe and the Middle East. Major vendor partners working with Magirus include HP, IBM, EMC, Red Hat, StorageTek and Microsoft.
