Mehmet Iyimen has stepped down as general manager for Sun Microsystems Middle East and North Africa (MENA) operations for personal reasons. Chris Cornelius has now taken on the top job in MENA. Cornelius, who was already based in Dubai and has been with Sun for six years, had previously been sales operations director for Southern and Eastern EMEA for the vendor. Kamran Hussain, VP sales and marketing at Sun’s regional channel development partner Tech Access, commented: “A new person always brings a fresh impetus. We wish Chris the best of luck and Tech Access is looking forward to continuing to work closely with Sun Microsystems to develop the market in this region.” Iyimen took on the top job at Sun MENA in July 2003 and has played a pivotal role in growing the vendor’s business across the region. Speaking earlier this year, Iyimen commented: “Sun’s revenues are healthy, as are our profits. Our development pipeline is full of exciting new solutions that offer technology at its best, as well as compelling total cost of ownership costs,” “Following management restructuring, the team has all the main industries in the region covered, and together with Tech Access we are looking forward to providing partners with even more sales opportunities this year,” he added. Sun currently uses Tech Access as its sole distribution partner for the region. Tech Access has worked hard to broaden its product portfolio in recent months and now works with a variety of vendors besides Sun including Veritas, Network Appliance and Business Objects. Tech Access has also secured exclusive regional distribution rights for fast growing UK-based e-mail security services vendor BlackSpider Technologies.
