Palm Film Dubai recently undertook the production of four commercials for the GMC Envoy. The commercials, shot on 35 mm, were filmed in Poland and Dubai. “The concept was very difficult to execute,” says Paul Baboudjian, head of production, Palm Film Dubai. “The idea was to show, on the one hand, seven young bikers performing stunts on their bikes to catch the attention of passers-by. Then we wanted to show viewers that they didn’t have to do anything so dramatic to catch the attention of people. All they had to do was drive a GMC Envoy and heads would instinctively turn.” The shoot itself was done under extreme weather conditions. After completing the first half of the production in the cold in Poland, the crew returned to the heat of Dubai for the second half of the shoot. In Dubai, the crew found itself in the face of a heavy sand storm one day and rains the next. “The storm messed up our production,” says Baboudjian. “There were many shots to do because we were producing four commercials for the GMC Envoy, but we met up to that challenge.” After the film processing and telecine were done at the Kodak lab in Dubai, the team took the work to Montage, a Dubai-based firm for post-production. “They have Smoke and Avid and do a great job,” says Baboudjian. The team primarily used Arri cameras and T-Rex lenses for the shoot.
