Oman Mobile has deployed an end-to-end IP communications services network supplied by Cisco Systems, and which included QoS-enabled IP converged network routers and switches, IP telephony systems and applications, and seamless wireless and mobility solutions. Products deployed as part of this solution include Cisco Catalyst 6500 series switches, Cisco Aironet wireless portfolio, and Cisco’s extensive IP telephony product set. “Competition has become a defining element of the mobile phone market today in Oman and demands that anyone looking to succeed in this industry offer quality service, efficiency and new products tailored for specific customer segments,” said Amer Awadh Al-Rawas, managing director of Oman Mobile. “We have had a strong relationship with Oman Mobile based on our understanding of their requirements and care for success, we are pleased to showcase our Intelligent Information Network infrastructure solutions and demonstrate the benefits of our vision” said Samer Alkharrat, general manager Gulf Region, Cisco Systems Middle East. Oman Mobile has been working hard to differentiate its service since having been spun off from state telco Oman Telecommunications in February last year. The entrance of competition in the form of Qtel/TDC joint venture Nawras in March this year has only intensified pressure to offer quality, differentiated mobile services. Oman Mobile counts just fewer than 1 million mobile subscribers today.
