PAV launches systems for GSM and CDMA

Free Space Optics vendor PAV Data Systems has released new 2E1 and 4E1 products that provide a connectivity solution for base stations (BTS) in GSM and CDMA networks. The products are designed for situations where installing fixed line infrastructure presents a major challenge. The PAVLight 2E1 transmits two independently clocked E1 circuits (2.048Mbytes/s) over a single FSO link at distances of up to 4km. A single PAVLight 2E1 link can support both and GSM and CDMA traffic. PAV says the time and cost to deploy the link is reduced because no indoor unit (IDU) or multiplexer is required, with the two E1 circuits multiplexed at the link head. The PAVLight 2E1 uses a single 120 Ohm RJ45 interface to transmit and receive both E1 streams along a single low cost Cat 5e UTP cable. A 75 Ohm input option is also available to support installations that require the use of coax cables. The PAVLight 4E1 offers double the link capacity. A simple module swap upgrade is available to allow the PAVLight 2E1 to be upgraded in the field to support four E1 channels, without the need for re-alignment. The PAVLight 4E1 offers two 120 Ohm interfaces and requires two Cat 5e cables to transmit and receive the 4E1 channels. The PAVLight 2E1 and PAVLight 4E1 are both available in single transmitter (for up to 2km) and three-transmitter (for up to 4km) versions. All systems provide an Alarm Indication Signal (AIS) on the E1 channels to allow detection of LOS (Loss of Signal) on the FSO and E1 channels. Dry contact alarms can also be connected into the existing alarm system of the GSM/CDMA infrastructure.
