Fastlink, Jordan’s mobile phone services company, has launched a new service called ‘Amr Khaled SMS & MMS Channel Service’. This allows users to receive mosque sermons and Amr Khaled’s Islamic preaching via SMS and MMS. The service has been launched in co-operation with Beecell and the renowned Islamic figure Amr Khaled. It also allows users to get Khaled’s lectures through MMS. Fastlink, which was acquired by Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) in January 2003, says this service is first of its kind in the Middle East. “More people are using the mobile phone as a direct and personal communications means in all aspects of life,” said Ziad Masri, data services manager at Fastlink. “Thus, Fastlink has introduced the religion data services to meet the needs of its customers, and provide them with an easy access to information on prayer times and other guidelines. The Amr Khaled SMS service can be used on any cell phone since all handsets today can send and receive SMS. To activate this service, all Jordanian customers have to do is send SUB AMR as an SMS to 90000. The Amr Khaled MMS service on the other hand, will require a mobile handset supporting MMS and a subscription to the MMS service. Send SUB MAMR as an SMS to 90000 to activate the service. Users can also call the toll free number 1234 to subscribe. Charges then apply for each SMS/MMS received.
