Printer vendor Oki has paid tribute to Al Shoaibi Group, its in-country Saudi Arabian master distributor, for helping secure 7.8% of the Kingdom’s colour laser printing market in the first quarter of 2005. A year earlier, Oki held zero market share according to the researchers at IDC. “Our resounding success in the Saudi market is greatly attributed to the appointment of Al Shoaibi Group last year as Oki’s master distributor for the Kingdom as a result of the increasing demand for Oki’s award-winning colour printers from several major organizations in both the enterprise and SMB segments. This decision has had an enormous impact on the availability of Oki products in the Kingdom and allowed us to take a major leap in our presence in the market,” explained John Ross, Middle East general manager at Oki. Al Shoaibi holds stock for Oki in Saudi Arabia, ensuring product availability for distributors and resellers across the Kingdom. Oki also operates its own regional warehouse at Jebel Ali. Oki also witnessed a slight jump in its UAE market share in the first quarter, grabbing 2.8% of the market compared to just 1.1% a year earlier. To support its growth in the region, Oki has confirmed that it will open its regional headquarters at Dubai Airport Free Zone. The move is in line with Oki’s commitment to drive sales and marketing support for channel partners across the GCC, Levant and North Africa. “There is a noticeably growing trend in the region where organisations, large and small, are starting to move away from monochrome printing solutions to colour laser printers which was clearly reflected in our sales figures for both the UAE and Saudi Arabia,” added Ross. “Oki’s colour printers meet the specific needs of businesses that want to use colour for their on-house printing needs but have previously only been able to by compromising on cost, quality or speed,” he concluded. Oki’s market share growth is attributed to a number of significant enterprise wins in the region including Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, ADGAS, Dubai Ports and Customs, Etihad Airlines, Emirates Airlines, SABIC, Saudi Airlines and King Abdul Aziz University Hospital.
