Approximately two months after announcing an agreement with Brightpoint Middle East to distribute its range of wireless PCMCIA cards, Canadian wireless data company Sierra Wireless reports that it is making good progress in developing its channel and operator partner programmes. “We have been very well received in this region and the conversations we have been having with operators have been positive,” said Derek Evans, vice president and managing director of Sierra Wireless for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We think the timing of our entry into this region is right as we have received much interest from the operators we have been talking to. They know that we have a track record and have experiences to share and they are eager to engage with us,” he added. The agreement with Brightpoint Middle East, a specialised distributor, saw the introduction of the AirCard 775, the AirCard 555, and the AirCard 580 wireless wide-area network cards into the Middle East market for the first time. The MP 775 GPS and MP 555 GPS rugged wireless modems were also released into select markets in the region. “We have a operator agreement that has already been finalised, but I am afraid I cannot identify the party at this stage,” said Simon Richards, Sierra Wireless’ general manager Middle East and North Africa. “The announcement should be made public in a matter of weeks and we’re looking forward to being able to discuss the opportunities we have identified with this operator at that time,” he added. The list prices for the cards range from US$299 to US$349, and Evans expects to see co-branding agreements between Sierra Wireless and operator partners becoming the general way in which such deals are concluded.
