Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) is asking users of its Amilo consumer notebooks to check their model numbers, as some of these products have been found to include defective batteries, which could overheat and catch on fire. The firm is offering a free battery exchange for users of the following models: AMILO A7640, A1640, M1405, M1424, M1425, M7405, M7424, M7425 and Amilo Pro V2020. More specifically, the model numbers of the lithium ion batteries affected by the issue – and therefore due for replacement - end with the code: G1L1. According to FSC’s online advisory, the firm decided to take action after receiving customer reports of a defect in some of its Amilo batteries. FSC is recommending that users of any of the notebook batteries mentioned above stop using these immediately and operate their notebook on AC power only until they have installed a new replacement battery. To put this battery warning into context, FSC claims to have received just four reports of batteries overheating, out of a possible 250,000 units across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Further details are available from FSC’s advisory page at www.fujitsu-siemens.com/support/batteryexchange/index.html. If your FSC Amilo notebook battery is one of those affected, contact your national FSC office on the relevant number listed below: Bahrain +973 774 066, Egypt - +202 671 2273, Jordan +962 6 551 3879, Kuwait +965 246 1564, Lebanon +961 471 0710, Qatar +974 455 1608, UAE +9714 286 0800, Saudi Arabia +966 121 81345.
