Microsoft has announced the availability of two new utilities - Calculator Plus and Time Zone – targeted at Arabic speaking users of Windows XP. Calculator Plus is an enhanced version of Microsoft’s standard desktop calculator, which can be used to convert common measurements such as weights and lengths in Arabic. The tool also allows users to perform currency conversions, using current exchange rates from the European Central Bank. Microsoft’s Time Zone tool runs in the system tray of Windows XP desktop and lets users view the date and time of various locations around the world. The tool can also be customised to show time information for only specific countries. This, Microsoft claims, is a particularly handy tool for those that want to check times and dates in specific locations such as branch o ffices in other countries. “In the Middle East, many organisations do business with other countries in the region and around the world, or have staff that travel abroad on a regular basis. This creates a constant need to work with different currencies or to deal with customers and partners in different time zones,” explained Assem Hijazi, localisation program manager, Microsoft. “These two applications give users answers to common problems such as converting currencies, or working out if an overseas office is open, right on the desktop at your fingertips.” Both tools are optimised to run on Microsoft Windows XP operating system and are available for free from www.microsoft.com/downloads.
