Beetel brand enters UAE through Alpha Data

Ibbini estimates the size of the opportunity to sell fixed-line devices into the UAE market and surrounding region at approximately 100,000 telephones per year.

India’s Bharti Teletech, one of the largest manufacturers of telecoms terminals worldwide, has announced a partnership with Alpha Data, one of the largest distributors of communications equipment in the UAE, to launch the Indian company's Beetel brand. Rakesh Bharti Mittal – vice chairman and managing director of Bharti Teletech and Fayez Ibbini, managing director, Alpha Data announced that Alpha Data would be the sole reseller of Beetel fixed-line products through newly opened outlets at Etisalat locations throughout the UAE. “We are constantly looking to diversify and grow our product mix by partnering with industry leaders who will help us provide the best solutions for our customers. Beetel has enjoyed enormous success as a top selling telecoms equipment manufacturer in India and other parts of the world, and we feel it will be very popular here in the UAE,” Ibbini said. “Our global expansion program promotes partnerships with companies who have a strong market presence,” Mittal added. Beetel phones have undergone audit procedures and will be available at Etisalat outlets from this month. Third parties were first permitted to offer some telecoms products in the UAE beginning in 1993, and this concession was further expanded in January this year to the provision of a wider range of products, including terminals. The two companies foresee the introduction of an analogue range of telephones followed by the introduction of fixed-line telephones that are also capable of sending and receiving SMS, sometime before August. Before the end of the year, Bharti Teletech expects to have expanded its range of products offered in the UAE to include broadband products, including ADSL products, modems and routers. Ibbini estimates the size of the opportunity to sell fixed-line devices into the UAE market and surrounding region at approximately 100,000 telephones per year. “If you assume there are 1.5 million fixed lines in the UAE and an annual growth rate of between 6-7%, the size of the replacement market represents an opportunity for the sale of 100,000 telephones,” Ibbini told CommsMEA.
