The Doha-based Aspire sports academy has signed a year-long advertising and marketing contract with CNN International in a bid to raise its international profile. The campaign will see Aspire become the exclusive sponsor of World Sport’s ‘Play of the Day’ segment and ‘Sporting Legends’, a series of bespoke films showcasing globally renowned sportspeople. “I made a decision six months ago that I wanted to increase global coverage on both English and Arabic networks and it became clear that CNN International’s ‘Play of the Day’ had a natural link to Aspire and what we are trying to achieve,” said Neil Duncanson, communications manager of Aspire. “The Aspire mission is to transform aspiring athletes into world renowned champions and we need this message to reach as many people as possible. Our agreement with CNN will allow us to reach a global audience, and enable us to unearth the best possible raw talent and sculpt them for stardom.” Sporting Legends highlights four icons in world sport including swimmer Ian Thorpe, tennis ace Pete Sampras, footballer Johann Cruyff and runner Hicham El Gejjourj. Duncanson refused to disclose how much the sponsorship package would cost the sports academy. However, the deal gives Aspire a direct line into more than 110 million homes and hotel rooms on CNN’s Europe, Middle East and Africa feed. Aspire also advertises on Al-Jazzera, the Euro Sport network and local Qatar TV.
