Golden Tulip Hotels, Inns & Resorts has entered into a franchise agreement with it a third property in Oman, the Golden Tulip Nizwa. The hotel is owned by Interior Hotels. The four-star property offers 120 rooms including three suites, a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, gymnasium and a ballroom, accommodating up to 400 persons and equipped with modern facilities. It joins the Golden Tulip Resort Khasab and the Golden Tulip Seeb Muscat Airport, as the hotel chain continues to grow in the sultanate. “Golden Tulip entered the Sultanate of Oman in 2003 and is happy to welcome its third hotel to the portfolio. The award-winning Golden Tulip Resort Khasab has set the standard for the level of hospitality our brand represents in the Sultanate of Oman and we are confident that the Golden Tulip Nizwa will contribute to this standard,” says Hans Kennedie, president & CEO of Golden Tulip. Golden Tulip has a fourth Oman property currently under development, the Golden Tulip Resort Mirbat. Located 70km from Salalah, the property will offer 254 rooms, including chalets, and will include a spa. “It is in a unique setting, located at Hino Island, which will be served by a bridge built by us. The resort will offer water sports, diving, and spa facilities, and we are currently working with Oman air to promote Khasab and Salalah as a destination,” Amine Moukarzel, Golden Tulip’s managing director Middle East & North Africa, told Hotelier Middle East. “We want to promote quality tourism in the region. For Oman, Muscat is the hub. We will see travellers arriving in Muscat, staying one or two nights in our hotel there, and then moving on to our properties in Mirbat or Khasab,” he adds. The Golden Tulip Resort Mirbat will open in the fourth quarter of 2006. The company is undergoing a period of rapid regional expansion. The Tulip Inn Knowledge Village, currently the only hotel in Knowledge Village, opened its doors last year. The 40-room four-star property has seen success with the business and corporate sectors in Dubai. Meanwhile, Golden Tulip has also signed a management agreement with the Aden Hotel in Yemen. “The property is being resorted and is undergoing full renovations. We are providing technical assistance on this, as we did with the Mirbat project. It will be rebranded Golden Tulip and is set to open in October,” reveals Moukarzel. The 190-room five-star hotel is being redesigned, and will feature modern, trendy rooms, according to Moukarzel. “This will bring our portfolio in the region to 21 properties. We are in advanced negotiations with owners in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai, and aim to strengthen our portfolio in Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia,” he adds.
