Abu Dhabi Duty Free (ADDF) has announced a significant increase in the average spend per head (ASPH) of 26.83% at their souvenir outlet, the Destination Shop, in the first third of 2005. The performance of the shop and increase in ASPH is attributed to the new range of products that Abu Dhabi Duty Free is introducing exclusively at the airport, with airport authorities also citing traffic flow in and out of the capital as a reason for the boost in sales. Since its launch, the Destination Shop has specialised in souvenir merchandising for airport passengers, like t-shirts, mugs, keyrings and plates, to predominantly tourists. ”The Destination Shop is designed to stimulate all 5 senses of our consumers by offering a variety of products that reflect the true essence of Arabia,” said Mohamed Mounib, managing director, Abu Dhabi & Al Ain Catering and Duty Free. “As Abu Dhabi is developing, so too is the airport, and our shops have to maintain this progress,” he adds. The turnover at the Destination Shop has also been proved to be one of the best performing outlets at the airport during the first four months of 2005; its turnover increased by 86.49% compared to the same period in 2004. “The success of the Destination Shop is attributed to the new policy we adopted last year, where we introduce and develop our own products, this allows us to price the merchandise sensibly and therefore assures rational profitability,” added Mounib.
