Power retailer Jacky’s Electronics has teamed up with Emirates Holidays to launch a retail promotion designed to drive foot traffic to its stores during the months of June and July and send a few lucky customers all the way to New Zealand. The use of promotions by major Dubai-based IT retailers has emerged as a powerful method of attracting customers during the traditionally sluggish summer months. Jacky’s promotion offers four lucky customers the opportunity to win a trip to New Zealand. The prize package includes airfare and three nights accommodation at a luxury hotel. Ashish Panjabi, chief operating office at Jacky’s, said: “We always try to come up with innovative promotions that will excite our customers. This year we decided to offer people the opportunity to explore New Zealand in winter, as that coincides with the hot summer season in the emirates.” To qualify for the promotion, shoppers visiting Jacky’s outlets need to make a minimum purchase of Dhs250. For every Dhs250 spent the shopper receives a coupon that will be entered into the draw. Four fortnightly draws will be held commencing on June 15th. Additional prizes including home theatres, DVD players, digital cameras and mobile phones are also up for grabs. The offer is available at all Jacky’s showrooms. “Visitors from the Middle East to New Zealand are growing at a rate of around 20% per annum,” said Gavin Young, New Zealand Consul General. “As a summer retreat, there are few that can compare.” Expect more promotions from IT retailers as we enter the quiet summer months. Many of these will be timed to coincide with Dubai Summer Surprises 2005, which will run from June 22nd to 2nd September this year. For the IT industry in the Middle East, the third quarter — running from July to September inclusive — remains the slowest quarter of the year, accounting for just 15% of total yearly sales according to major vendors. Any activities — including retail promotions — that boost channel sell out of IT and digital products during this period are particularly welcome.
