Emaar chairman Mohamed Ali Alabbar has met with Israeli vice Prime Minister, Shimon Peres, to discuss buying settlements in the Gaza strip, according to Israeli daily newspaper reports. The Jerusalem Post this week reported that Peres had discussed the issue with Alabbar at last week’s World Economic Forum in Jordan. Several Arab developers and investors are understood to be interested in getting involved with the reconstruction of Gaza. But they want assurances from Israel that their investments will be protected and that they will be allowed to conduct business freely. Jordan’s King Abdullah formally closed the gathering with the claim that the Arab world had created a ‘flight plan’ and that it was ready to reach its destination. Emaar declined to comment.
