The UAE’s incumbent operator Etisalat has introduced a missed call notification service that will permit users to be notified by text message of calls they missed while the phone was busy, switched off or outside a coverage area. Text message notifications will be pushed to the handset when it is turned on or comes back within a coverage area. “In terms of convenience and the power of staying in touch, this service will open new doors to our mobile customers, says Mohammed Al Fahim, executive vice president, marketing, Etisalat. The service is available to all Etisalat mobile subscribers, ranging from postpaid, Wasel and Najm customers. Subscribers are required to register to the notification service, and there is a one-off registration fee of AED30 (US$8). There are two ways in which to activate the service. One is by calling 125 and following the voice prompts, or sending a text message to the number 1010. In both cases, a confirmation SMS will be sent to the registering customer’s phone. To enable the service on the phone, customers have to divert calls to 134 from the call divert menu to receive SMS notification when the phone is switched off or outside a coverage area.
