Distributor Golden Systems has unveiled a dedicated retail distribution unit to provide a range of value-added services for retailers in the Middle East and create an even stronger channel-to-market for recent additions to its product portfolio. Ehsan Hashemi, regional sales manager GCC at Golden Systems, explained the rationale behind the move: “We have established the new business unit to cater for the retail market. Golden Systems now has a wide range of products suitable for retail from a variety of vendors including TEAC, Kingmax, Leadtek, Logitech and Gigabyte. We see the region moving more and more towards retail and felt that this was a good opportunity to enter this segment.” “We know what retailers require in terms of merchandising and stocking and that is why we have set up a dedicated unit,” he added. “We will be consistent in our supply of product and the dedicated team will ensure that the retail customers get all the support they need.” Golden Systems has fleshed out its product portfolio in recent months with the addition of distribution rights for Swissbit’s memory products in the UAE, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Lebanon. Golden Systems has also started distributing AMD processors. “We are a regional distributor for AMD now,” added Hashemi. “We purchase from a master distributor usually from outside the region and see this as an excellent opportunity to help increase AMD’s market share in the region. Our plan is to promote AMD’s CPUs in terms of performance and quality.” Ali Sharifi, managing director at Golden Systems, added: “AMD has some market share in Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and now they want to increase market share in other countries across the region. AMD is a very good product — even my computer at home uses an AMD processor.” According to Sharifi, Golden Systems’ first quarter financial performance was in line with expectations despite the increasingly competitive distribution market in the Middle East. “Increased competition is part of this business and that is why companies need to drive themselves to diversify their activities and approaches,” he concluded.
