Al Jazeera has invested in two Discreet Smoke editing and finishing systems and a Discreet Flame system for visual effects and compositing. One Smoke and the Flame will be used for Al Jazeera's new documentary channel and the other Smoke will be employed for the network's children's channel. This order expands on Al Jazeera's investment last year, which included two Smokes and two Flames for its promo and graphics departments. "Through its continued investment in Discreet systems, Al Jazeera is sending a clear signal to the region's increasingly competitive broadcast community. By creating high quality graphics and idents, the station can differentiate its new and existing channels through strong, attention-grabbing branding," commented Patrick Jocelyn, director - EMEA, Autodesk Media and Entertainment division. "With the growing number of channels available to viewers, stations have just seconds to capture their audience's attention. Channel branding is playing an increasingly important role in this. So, stations like Al Jazeera will be well positioned against their competitors." The systems installation and integration was undertaken by Brainwaves, Autodesk's systems reseller for the Middle East. Brainwaves spent two weeks on-site, training Al Jazeera's artists on the new versions of Smoke and Flame.
