Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the largest hydrocarbon exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman, has signed a major agreement with Trend Micro to protect its intellectual assets and IT infrastructure with a comprehensive network solution driven by Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy. The solution will protect IT systems within PDO’s headquarters, its on-shore branch offices and at remote facilities and exploration sites across Oman. In an industry where business continuity is critical – to ensure that the oil and gas keeps flowing – executives recognised the importance of preventing system breakdown caused by viruses or spam attacks, and invested accordingly. PDO will protect its network with a combined solution featuring Trend Micro services and enterprise-class products. The integrated solution, Trend Micro’s NeatSuite Enterprise Edition, will ensure effective protection against internet threats, malware, and spam. NeatSuite replaces a McAfee product and will form the core security platform protecting every access point on PDO’s network. The expansion has necessitated that PDO invest in appropriate technology that will safeguard its entire business from internet security threats and ensure that business continuity is fully protected. According to Hassan Al Barwani, PDO’s IT technology planning lead, “An essential part of our business is research and exploration, and we are determined to protect our intellectual resources from the new generation of malicious software and viruses.” Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy, an industry first that evolved the approach to managing malicious threats, deploys appropriate solutions at the appropriate time of an outbreak’s lifecycle. These integrated solutions are offered within NeatSuite, which includes InterScan Messaging and Web Security Suites and Trend Micro Control Manager. For enhanced protection, PDO will also deploy Trend Micro’s Damage Cleanup Services over its wide-area network to ensure data integrity. The solution will protect data flow across PDO’s network from malicious attacks and spam surpluses and PDO can protect the continuity of its business operations throughout its enterprise. Justin Doo, managing director of Trend Micro Middle East and Africa, says “PDO’s progressive technology strategy has helped it maintain a competitive edge in a fast-moving industry. Trend Micro’s EPS-driven solution supports PDO’s ambitious plans for exploration and production.”
