Jebel Ali-based LightSpeed Distribution has struck an agreement with motherboard vendor EliteGroup Computer Systems (ECS) to sell its products into Central Asia and the CIS. The deal boosts LightSpeed’s product portfolio and brings on board a major name in the global components market. In 2004, ECS shipped close to 24 million motherboards worldwide. Vlad Rogovoy, managing director at LightSpeed Distribution, commented: “EliteGroup is well known as a best price good value mainboard vendor and has a strong reputation in the CIS. Despite the difficult political situation in the CIS we plan to capture market share in Kazakhstan and other CIS countries and aim to have 10% market share by the end of the year.” “With the help of a solid base of customers in seven CIS countries we plan to quickly deliver ECS goofs to local assemblers and provide fast service,” he added. LightSpeed is one of several distributors operating out of Dubai that specialise in moving kit into the emerging markets of Central Asia and the CIS. As well as detailed knowledge of the in-country channels that exist, these companies also have an acute understanding of the economic and political factors influencing the market development. “The situation in Kyrgyzstan is still unclear before the election of the new president, which will happen on July 10th. Also, the fear of revolution in other surrounding countries is impacting the business climate,” added Rogovoy. “However, LightSpeed is looking into the future with optimism and believes that any changes that do occur could open up new possibilities.” LightSpeed sales soared 20% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2005 and the company is confident that it will achieve full year sales growth in the region of 50%.
