Navin Tikoo, formerly regional manager of Aptec Africa, has moved on to pastures new. Tikoo has taken on the role of head of IT distribution at Derinton, a new UAE-based distributor with a focus on digital devices specialising in the retail sector. “Derinton is part of a parent company that has various retail business interests including Virgin Megastores in the region,” said Tikoo. “We are looking to recruit IT vendors at the moment, especially those with an interest in the retail sector and the convergence of digital devices.” “The plan is to start off covering the GCC before expanding across Levant and North Africa as well. There is huge potential for growth in the digital consumer channel,” added Tikoo. “We are working right now on recruiting vendors to work with Derinton.” According to Tikoo, Derinton has already signed a distribution agreement with Nokia. The new distributor plans to bring a range of value-added retail distribution services to the market including merchandising and rackjobbing expertise. Tikoo spent seven-and-a-half years at Aptec prior to this move, helping the regional distribution giant develop its operation in Africa. He is now looking forward to developing a focused retail distribution operation for Derinton (not to be confused with Redington).
