HP doubles up with new servers

While buying rack mount or blade servers has always been the subject of some deliberation for potential owners due to their price, HP aims to make them far more attractive with the launch of its dual-core ready servers.

HP furthered its server line-up this week with the launch of its dual-core processor ready ProLiant BL45p and ProLiant DL585. Both new models aim to offer the performance bark of quad processor machines with the bite of cheaper dual processor systems when equipped with new dual-core processors. “The advent of dual- and multi-core processor technologies represents an industry defining change which returns us to the performance promise of Moore’s Law at industry-standard prices,” said Martyn Molnar, manager, enterprise storage and servers, HP Middle East. “HP’s server strategy of innovation on standards and choice allows our customers to deploy the best of this new technology into their existing industry-standard environments with the same management, options and tools. That’s a value proposition that other vendors simply don’t offer today.” The HP ProLiant BL45p is designed for the company’s own BladeSystem and is available with either single-core or dual-core processors. In both cases, AMD’s Opteron 800-series of processors will provide the muscle. The BL45p, used with the company’s own BladeSystem, will help companies pack even more processing power into the same amount of space, which should help boost productivity and leave operational costs virtually unchanged. HP’s ProLiant DL585 is also equipped with AMD’s Opteron processors, which makes HP one of the first tier one vendors to get dual-core servers out onto the market. HP plans to offer lower-spec dual-core servers at price points that match current single-core models. Its new servers should be available across the region by the end of May though pricing has not yet been announced.
