Printers that can print up to A3 size and above are being snapped up by increasing numbers of businesses, according to Emilio Ghilardi, HP IPG EMEA’s vice president and commercial general manager, moving these products from a niche market position into the mainstream. “Wide-format printers are moving away from only being used by specialist operations such as architects and design studios,” Ghilardi told ITp.net, “and are really now heading into the mainstream.” As a result of this burgeoning trend – which is being strongly fuelled by the dwindling prices of wide-format printers – HP has this week launched four new wide-format models at its 'Shaping the Future' EMEA SMB event in London, England. “These new models are really being introduced to fill the holes in our current product range,” Ghilardi admitted, going on to give details of the firm’s four new wide-format offerings. HP's new budget-priced A3 contender comes in the form of its Deskjet 9800 series. Priced from $514, this is designed to help SMBs create both office documents and client-facing marketing materials in-house. Capable of 30ppm mono and 20ppm colour, it can print in duplex up to A3 poster size and offers a resolution of 4,800-optimised dpi. The $640 Business Inkjet 2800 meanwhile offers similar print speeds, but employs four individual high-capacity ink cartridges, is instantly network connectable and includes a wider range of media handling options. Moving up size-wise to A2 and above, HP’s A2 Designjet 70 costs $1,095 and employs colour layering technologies to offer quality results at speeds of up to 11ppm. Last but not least, HP's new A1 CAD contender is its Designjet 110plus series. Available for $1,546, this allows the use of a wide range of media types up to 0.4mm thick, 300 g/m and A1+ in size.
