Dubai Municipality plans to launch fibre-optic network

DM to link up prime offices to gigabit network

Dubai Municipality plans to set up a fibre-optic metropolitan area network within the next year. It will enable the organisation to connect its prime offices on a high-speed gigabit network The fibre-optic network will consist of a triangular ring connecting Dubai Municipality, Dubai Central Laboratory and the Public Transport Department in Al Ramool, according to Abdullah Al Shaibani, assistant director general for technical services affairs. He said: “Dubai Municipality is again gearing up its infrastructure to be able to add on more and more services to its IT network.” The IT department at Dubai Municipality has already layed fibre-optic cable to 22 of its critical sites under a project that aims to build a ‘intelligent transportation system’ for the Emirate of Dubai.
