Cement prices in the UAE are down 15% on six months ago and could go even lower, according to readymix company SS Lootah. One year after the cement crisis which saw the cost of the material rocket by 200%, the market has returned to stability. Spokesman Hassan Mohalal said: “Second quarter prices are down and are expected to go down a little further. “There is a lot of capacity in cement factories and a lot of local producers which account for 80% of consumption.” He was speaking following the launch of a new readymix batching plant in the Jebel Ali industrial area. The company also operates batching plants in Al Ghusais and Al Quoz.
