Acer has launched its ultra-mobile notebook - the TravelMate 3000 - weighing in at just 1.40kg, and is targeted at mobile business professionals. The notebook, the size of an A4-sized notepad, is designed for road warriors who are constantly on the move and comes with two batteries as standard. Featuring Intel's Centrino mobile technology and Intel’s new Sonoma platform, the notebook also comes with a host of software applications, such as Acer GridVista, Acer eManager and Acer eRecovery. Acer's GridVista is an application that automatically resizes open windows, splitting the display into dual, triple, or quadruple screens, thus allowing faster multi-tasking for users. So a user can view a Word document, look at graphs on an Excel spreadsheet, as well as keep an eye on incoming e-mail, all displayed on the same screen. Another new feature is the eManager suite of applications, which allows users to restore default settings, while the eRecovery application allows for the back up of data. The TravelMate 3000 features the Intel 915GM Express chipset with dual channel DDRII memory and a 12.1” WXGA colour TFT LCD wide-screen with a picture resolution of up to 1,280 x 800 pixels at 16.7 million colours. The notebook also includes options of processors up to Pentium M 760 (2.0Ghz/533FSB), 1024MB of DDRII memory and a 100GB HDD, including Bluetooth, 802.11g wireless, gigabit ethernet, infrared and a 4-in-1-card reader. The Acer ezDock, which connects to a 124-pin connector on the TravelMate 3000, is the first docking device with PCI Express technology, delivering a desktop-replacement solution that can hook up to 24 commonly used peripherals. Retails prices for the notebook are expected to start at US$1,498.
