Air-India Express made its maiden flight on Friday, 29th April, with flight IX 525 flying from Thiruvananthapuram to Abu Dhabi. The low cost arm of India’s national carrier will undercut rivals between the country and the Gulf by as much as 50%. The airline is operating 181-seater Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which sport designs reflecting the country’s cultural heritage. The cabin crew also were stylish costumes designed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology. Passengers, however, were more interested in the ticket prices, which are some of the lowest on the sector. “I had to pay only Rs 4,900 including the airport user fee for Abu Dhabi, as against the normal fare of Rs 8,500 to 9,000. I am very happy this has happened,’’ Mr Varghese, a passenger on the flight from Thiruvananthapuram told the Deccan Herald.
