Although postproduction firm, VTR Beirut has not announced an official launch date yet, it has already been operational in the region since November 2004. One of the highlights of the firm is its telecine facility. “VTR Beirut offers the first Spirit DataCine suite in the Middle East and North Africa,” says Ken Robinson, chief colourist at VTR Beirut. Robinson manages the telecine suite at VTR Beirut and is responsible for training and developing local colourists for the facility. “The main advantage for clients is they no longer need to travel to Europe to have access to the best tools available. We have installed technology and imported experts to give clients the same quality as overseas facilities at a much lower cost. With this, clients will have approximately 40%-50% lower costs than at most international post houses.” VTR Beirut claims that the Spirit DataCine offers total reliability, beautiful images, repeatability and also integrated dirt and scratch concealment. “The Pogle Evolution is a well known and highly sought-after colour correction system. Our version contains some eleven layers of colour correction, three with softening effects,” adds Robinson. VTR Beirut has an infrastructure that supports HD. However, the firm hasn’t committed to the installation of HD colour correction within the telecine area as yet. It is still studying systems to see whether a data workflow would be better for its client base. The firm also has Inferno, Flame, Smoke, Avid, Combustion, and Maya and 3ds Max.
